How to Remove Trojan

A Trojan is also known as Trojan horse. It is a non self replicating malware, which performs many functions for the users but it facilitates an unauthorized access to the other user’s computer system. The term ‘Trojan horse’ is derived from the Greek mythology.

A Trojan horse is designed in a manner, which allows the hacker to have remote access to the target computer system. When a Trojan horse is installed on the target computer, then it is easier for any hacker to access it and perform any operations. The operations, which a tracker can perform, are limited by the user privileges on the target computer system and the design of the Trojan house. A Trojan horse can be installed by four methods like:

  • Software downloads, like Trojan horse can be included as a part of the software application, which is being downloaded from a file sharing network.
  • Websites that contain the executable content.
  • Email attachments
  • Application exploits

The removal of Trojan horse is done by antivirus software, which is designed to delete and detect Trojan horse. It also prevents it from being installed again. There are some ways to remove Trojan horse manually, but it requires a detailed understanding of how the Trojan horse operates. Recently, there is an increasing popularity of ‘botnets’ amongst the hackers. Since then, Trojan horses are becoming common. • Start the antivirus program, which you have installed in your computer, like Symantec’s Norton or McAfee. Wait for a while for the program window to open up, and then click on the ‘disk view’. Now, you will have to highlight your computer, and then choose ‘Scan/Repair’; this will help the program in detecting Trojan and removing it.
  • Now you can exit the antivirus program in your Mac. You should restart your computer, just to ensure that the Trojan has been deleted. Empty the trash can of your computer once it starts running.
  • Next, you will have to disable the system restore feature of the window’s user. Go to the ’start’ option at the bottom of your screen, then right click on the ‘my computer’ icon and go to properties. There you will have to check on the ‘Turn Off System Restore’, which is under the system restore tab in the properties window, and then choose the option ‘apply’.
  • Make sure that you update the virus definitions in your program of antivirus. Open the program or you can go to the website, and download the latest definition. This will help you in receiving the most recent alerts and keep your computer protected.
  • Scan all your files to detect the files of Trojan. Follow all the instructions in your antivirus program to delete any suspicious files. You should write down the file name of the Trojan, which you can easily find in the ‘C:\’ hard drive. Now, edit your computer’s backup registry; you will have to choose ‘Start”, and then ‘Run’. You will have to type ‘regedit’ in the window, which appears on the screen and then click ‘ok’.

Look for the registry entry from where you have derived the Trojan, which may start with ‘HKEY’ followed by a file path. Delete the registry entry just to make sure that you have the Trojan removed. Now, exit the registry entry and restart your computer so that all the effects are changed.
