- Wrench and socket set
- Philips screwdriver
- Flathead screwdriver
- Flashlight
- Spray lubricant
- New bumper
Steps:
Removing bumper
- The first thing you will have to do is open the trunk of your vehicle. Start unscrewing all the screws that are on the inside plastic trim, which covers the bumper and trunk connection.
- Now you will have to pry the plastic piece out with the help of a flathead screwdriver. You will have the bolts exposed now, which are attached to the bumper and the trunk.
- Start unscrewing all the bolts, which are connected on the inside of the bumper; there will be four bolts. First, unscrew two bolts, which are connected to the bumper from the inner side of the wheel tire wells. These screws will be placed on the region of the tire, which is closest to the bumper.
- Now, you can slide under the car, take a flathead screwdriver to pop open the plastic rivets from underside of the bumper. You will find approximately six rivets. Now squat behind your car and tightly pull out the bumper. When you do this you will hear a popping plastic sound of the plastic rivets, which are the last pieces holding the bumper on the car.
Replacing the bumper
- The first step for replacing the bumper will be lifting the bumper off the car. The bumper will be heavy so you can ask someone to help you in this situation. Set the bumper aside on the floor and start removing the bolts.
- Now, place the bolts from the holes inside the new bumper. Very carefully keep the new bumper on the car. Always remember that you will have to check that all the bolts go from the holes you had taken them out from. Start replacing the lug nuts at the ends of the bolts and use the wrench to tighten them.
- Now start attaching all the bolts that you had removed earlier and you are done with replacing the bumper. Knowing how to replace bumper can save your trips to the mechanics and you can do it yourself within no time.
