A trackball is a kind of computer mouse that is used in hand held devices; it is like a manipulating ball, which is used for moving the on screen pointer. This trackball plays a critical role in computer mouse and handheld devices. Trackball allows the user to move their pointer on the screen to any desired location and they can select an object with this pointer. The trackball will perform all the functions that are similar to the traditional mouse. However, instead of moving the entire mouse to position of cursor, there is a small solid ball, which is located at the center and is used for navigating on the screen. Using a trackball lets the user move this small mouse with the thumb and then he or she can move the cursor to the desired location without moving the entire assembly. This trackball reduces the effort of moving the wrist or arm for maneuvering and prevents the user from repositioning the mouse too quickly.

The trackball offers greater accuracy when compared to the traditional mouse. The trackball mouse can navigate smoothly and will not jump or stick on any of the desktop surface or mouse pad, unlike the conventional desktop computer mouse. This mouse is preferred when the arm movement of a person is constrained due to some reasons and the trackball mouse never requires a mouse pad for navigating.

However, before anyone chooses a computer mouse there are certain things that must be considered like frequency, duration of use, physical limitations and space constraints. Over the time even the trackball mouse can stop functioning due to various reasons. However, replacing trackball is a very simple process. Here are some simple steps on how to replace trackball.
