How to Ride Motocross

A motocross bike with all the specifications, zest of riding and the speed gives an adrenaline rush and sometimes makes you feel as if you are in seventh heaven. No doubt that riding a bike is a thrilling experience but only when you follow the following instructions on how to ride a motocross.

  1. Before you start to ride motocross, you are supposed to read the manual of the bike you are riding on. You should know all the parts before you start it. The mechanisms of all bikes are nearly the same but it might be different with motocross. Read and understand all the point given in the manual. This will help you if there is any breakdown.
  2. You need to take some safety precautions before gearing up for riding. Wear motocross boots, helmet, pants and knee and elbow pads. These are specially designed for the motocross and will protect you from injuries. If possible wear wrist pads and chest protector also. Goggles are a must if you are not driving in night.
  3. After sitting on a bike, you can adjust levers as per your comfort. Make sure that the position of clutch and handbrakes are according to your choice. This will save you from wrist stress.
  4. While sitting, sit a little forward on the bike. This will prevent the back pain and give you more control on the bike. Maintain the correct body posture. Keep your legs close to the petrol tank and bend your knees to absorb the shock of the bumps. Give yourself a minute to analyze and make changes to your sitting position. When you feel that you are sitting comfortably, start the bike.
  5. While riding, remember your limits. Do not exceed the speed limit just for the sake of adventure.  It can cost your life. Do not try big jumps unless you have mastered the basics. Progress gradually and slowly staying within your comfort zone.
  6. It is tempting to do challenging stunts on a motocross but practice the turns before you do the stunts. On a straight track it is easy to pick up speed when you are on straight road but if you have not practiced the turns, you will lose all the speed on them.
  7. Always extend your leg on the side of the turn. For example, on a left turn, extend your left leg forward and towards the centre of the front wheel. This technique will help you in gaining that extra control needed on turns. While coming out of the turn, keep your body in a correct upright posture. Remember the bike will tilt on the turn.
  8. Slow down a bit before all the turns. The technique of giving your bike some throttle before the turn will help you mastering the toughest and sharpest turns.
  9. Do not restrict to one sided turn only. Practice turns of both sides.

10. When you are finished with riding, do not turn off the bike immediately. This will enable the cylinder pipe to spark. When you stop completely, it is suggested to wait on one spot for some 10-15 seconds. For any other bike this is not necessary, but for motocross this is the safest method to stop a bike.
