How to Save a PowerPoint Presentation

A PowerPoint presentation (PPT) is a display of slides that may contain pictures or text, which is created and presented for creative and/or instructional purpose. PPTs are used by students for doing projects and are also used in offices for making presentation to colleagues and clients. With all the hard involved in its creation, you must also know how to save a PowerPoint presentation. You can save it to your computer or laptop in the PPT format or as images. You can also save it to a CD or copy it to an external storage device such as a thumb drive or USB.

Save a PPT to your computer

  • First, create an impressive PPT on your computer using Microsoft Office PowerPoint program provided by Windows.
  • Now, once you have finished and want to save it, go to the File menu, which you see at the top left corner of the PPT window.
  • Click on it with the left mouse button and from the drop down list select the option “Save”.
  • A Save dialog box will come up on your computer screen where you can choose or type a file name for your PPT and also chose the location where you want to save it on your computer.
  • Click on the OK button and your PPT will be saved in the location of your choice with the .ppt extension.

Save a PPT as an image

  • You can also save the PPT you have created as an image by creating picture files of all or some of the slides in your PPT.
  • To do this, you will have to save the PPT by following the steps given above and then go to the particular slide that you want to save as an image.
  • If you have PowerPoint 2007 installed on your PC, then go to the Office button and select the “Save As” option from the drop down menu.
  • Alternatively, if you have PowerPoint 2003 or an earlier version installed on your computer, then go to the File menu and select Save As from the drop down.
  • Give a file name to your slide in the pop-up dialog box and choose an image format from the “Save as type” list.
  • Finally, click on the Save button and your slide will be saved as an image. You can follow the same process for other slides in your PPT.

Save a PPT on thumb drive

  • To save a PPT on your thumb drive, first insert it into the USB port of your computer or laptop.
  • Now open the PPT on your PC that you want to save.
  • Go to the File menu, left-click it, select Save As option from the drop down and locate the thumb drive there.
  • Change the name of the PPT if you want, in the Save As box and click on the Save button to save your PPT to the thumb drive.
  • Now, give your computer the command to remove the external drive from your computer. You must remember not to remove it from the USB port directly.
  • Go to the Taskbar, which you will find at the bottom right corner of your screen and select “safely remove hardware” option if you are using Windows or “eject” option if you are using Mac.
  • Right-click on the option, locate your thumb drive and click on “Stop”.
  • Remove the drive only when the computer tells you that it is safe to remove it.

Save a PPT to a CD

  • You can save your PPT to a CD by simply burning it using software like Nero.
  • For this, you will have to first save the PPT on your computer in a location you can remember.
  • Now, open the Nero StartSmart program on your PC and navigate your mouse to an image that looks like a piece of paper that has three blue lines through it.
  • Click on the image that says “make Data CD” and click on the “Add” button when the Nero Express window appears on your screen.
  • Select all the PPTs that you want to save to this CD and click on “Finish” when you are done adding all of them.
  • You can rename the CD if you want and then click on “Burn” to start the process of burning the PPT files to the CD.
  • The program will show you the status, buffer level and the total time it will take to burn all the files.
  • When the burning is complete, a box will pop-up on your screen saying “Burn process completed successfully”, click on the “next” button and when the CD ejects from the drive, click “exit”.
