Run ZIP program
- You will have to first download a ZIP compression program such as WINZIP from the Internet and install it on your computer.
- While installing it, ensure that you choose the classic mode as it is more flexible than the Wizard mode. You can later switch between the modes if you want.
- Now run the program on your computer.
Creating and saving a zip file
- Click on “New” tab at the top of the program window and a dialog box will come up on your screen.
- Browse to the location in your computer and type in the filename for your zip file.
- Click on OK to display the “Add” dialog box and browse the files that you want to add here.
- Select a file by clicking on it with the left mouse button or alternatively, press CTRL key on your keyboard and select multiple files.
- Now, click the “Add” button, which will add your selected files to the program window. A dialog box will appear on your screen confirming that your files were added.
- Click on OK to close the confirmation box and click on “Add” again to add more files to the program.
- Go to the File menu and select the Exit option to close the WinZip program. Your zip file has been successfully created and saved in the location chosen by you on the computer.

- Move your mouse to the file that you want to save as .zip.
- Click on it with the right mouse button and select “Add to zip” or “Add to archive” option from the pop-up menu.
- The file will be saved with a .zip extension and you can select “configure” or “options” to make any further changes.
Saving a zip file on Windows XP
- Go to the file which you want o save in the zip format.
- Right-click on the filename and select “Send to” option from the drop down and then “Compressed (Zipped) file” option.
- Your file will be saved as .zip and you can change the settings by going to the “configure” or “options” tab.
Saving a zip file on Mac (shortcut)
- Move your mouse to the location of your file that needs to be saved in the zip format.
- Click on it with the right button of your mouse and select the option “create archive of (file name)”.
- The file will be now saved as .zip and will come up on your desktop.
Saving a zip file with Finder on Mac
- Go to the file you want to save a .zip and click on the filename with the left mouse button.
- Now, go to the Finder menu and click on “File” option under it. Scroll down further and select “Create archive of (file name)”.
- The file is now saved in the zip format ion your desktop.
