Firefox Extension

  • Mozilla Firefox enables you to capture online videos easily and is therefore preferred by most users.
  • Another advantage of using Firefox is that it works on both Windows as well as Mac.
  • Firefox has a very good extension called the Video Downloader, which makes downloading and saving videos on your PC easy and quick.
  • Download this extension and after installing you will see its icon on your browser at the bottom right side.
  • Now, open the webpage of the video to be saved and click on the downloader icon.
  • A pop-up window will appear on your screen, which will tell you to right-click on a download link and then change the suffix.
  • You can also left-click on this link so that you won’t have to change the suffix.
  • Now for viewing the file on Mac, you can use the iSquint program, which is free and gives you unlimited use.
  • To use iSquint, simply drag and drop your saved video in this program and start watching.
  • There is no free software available for Windows users. However, you can use CinemaForge, which is a good tool for watching these videos.

Other software

  • If you want to download and save videos from multiple websites then the two programs that you will find to be of most help are SnapzPro X 2 for Mac users and SnagIt for those using Windows.
  • These programs are costlier than others; however they are more versatile than others.
  • There are many other web applications that will help you to download and save your favorite videos from the internet. These are:
    • ClipNabber – it only requires you to copy-paste the URL of the video to be saved.
    • Zamzar – It converts videos from the internet to other formats such as Mp4, MP3, MPEG etc.
    • YouTubeX – As the name suggest, this will allow you to save only those videos that are available on YouTube.
