Skin is like a living organ that continuously keeps regenerating itself. Sometimes it may feel that your skin is just impossible to manage, especially if you find a huge zit on your nose or a cold sore near your mouth. For this, you don’t have to go through intensive skin care, just pamper yourself with the basics. Here are some simple steps on how to take care of your skin.

Know your Skin Type
- Dry skin: If your skin tends to get dehydrated soon, it lacks oil and has very little breakouts then you have dry skin. In some of the extreme cases, dry skin will lack elasticity and it can be very sensitive to the sun, cold temperatures and wind. People with dry skin should wash their face only once with a creamy cleanser and warm water. Rinse your face with warm water and then pat it dry. Apply some toner to avoid that tight and flaky feeling on your skin. Always remember that since you have dry skin, you must avoid toners and cleansers, which have alcohol in them since they have a drying effect.
- Oily skin: People with oily skin, will always have a lot of shine on their face, as soon as they cleanse their face and this enlarges the pores. This kind of skin is prone to pimples, whiteheads and blackheads and has a coarse texture. Oily skin will attract more dirt as compared to dry skin. Therefore, if you have oily skin then you must wash your face twice a day with gentle and non-foaming cleanser. Remember that you must always rinse your face with warm water. Use an alcohol-free toner for removing the dirt residue. For controlling the shine on your skin, you can use blotting paper.
- Normal skin: Some people tend to consider normal skin to be a combination skin, but this is not true. If your skin has oily skin on the T-zone and taut and dry skin on the cheeks, it changes with the season, then you have a normal skin. People with normal skin must wash their face with cleansers designed for their skin type. Use an alcohol-free toner for wiping your skin and keep applying moisturizing to your skin whenever it gets dry.
- Sensitive skin: Always remember that you can have a mixture of sensitive skin in normal, oily or dry skin type. If your skin gets allergic to the beauty products and is sensitive to sun, air and cold weather then you have sensitive skin. You can notice the sensitivity in the form of redness, rash, acne, inflammation and dilated capillaries. You will have to use cleansers, toners and moisturizers, which are fragrance-free and are hypoallergenic. You will have to use gentle products for everyday use. The ideal products for your skin will be those that have a soothing effect.
- Combination skin: Combination skin is like two extreme skin types on one face. These skin types will have an oily region where you will find acne and the other area of the skin will be not producing oil at all. For combination skin, you will have to use products made especially for your skin type. If you are experiencing a severe condition, then you will have to consider visiting a dermatologist who can treat your skin.
Quit Smoking
- If you are an addict to smoking then it will make your skin look older and it will lead to wrinkles. Smoking will narrow down the blood vessels on the outermost layer of your skin, which will eventually reduce the blood flow. If you are a chain-smoker than the only way to protect your skin is to quit smoking.
Diet
- If you maintain a healthy diet, then it will make your skin healthier. Start eating vegetables, fruits, lean proteins and whole grains. However, the association between acne and diet is not clear, but a research suggests that a diet rich in vitamin C will, low fats will promote younger looking skin.
Stress
- If you have a lot of stress, then it will cause acne breakouts. For healthy skin, you will have to manage stress.
Tips and Warnings:
- Keep drinking lot of water otherwise your skin will become dry.
- Always remember that sunscreen is the fountain of youth. Therefore, you must get into the habit of using sunscreen lotion with a minimum SPF of 30 for daily protection. For moisturizing your skin, try using homemade masks. They are very easy to make and can be very helpful.
- If your skin is prone to acne, then every night wash your face with chilled water, this will get rid of the acne. Make a mix of brown sugar and few drops of milk and wash your face with this for removing excess oil. You can leave this scrub on your face for as long as you like.
- Always remember that you must avoid pulling or stretching the weak skin near your eyes while applying make-up. This delicate area will show the markings of ageing sooner due to the stretching.
- Never ever, pick at a blemish. If you pick at it, then it will result into poor blemish like scarring or permanent enlargement of your pore. Sometimes you will get a breakout in the same place again.
- Do not over wash your skin, because it will simply make it red and sore, which will damage your skin even more.
- Do not allow yourself to pop-open a blemish. This is the most unsafe practice as germs and bacteria can enter from the broken skin. If you pop-open a blemish, then you must apply some alcohol to it to prevent infection.
- Remember that if you use too much of toner then it will start drying your skin.
