The most fun way of photography is the one with a little experiment. This is the kind of photography where the creativity flows and you let yourself enjoy during shooting. However, you will not get good results all the time, but sometimes you will get a picture that wows you totally and will inspire you to go further. For this, you must know how to take creative photographs.
Here are some simple steps to help you in taking creative pictures.
- The most important thing out here is to remember that practice makes perfect and not every picture you click is going to be golden. Just keep clicking pictures and do not stop, because you never know when you get an inspiring shot.
- The next key rule is to be patient. Unless you want to capture something that is moving or a fleeting shot, you must take your own time. Once you find something, which grabs your attention, look at the subject and scene through it from the lens of your camera. This will help you to focus on what you want to photograph and will let you know where you have to make a cut.
- Framing is another crucial thing. When you are deciding what will be your subject, consciously or subconsciously you will be deciding the frame as well. Most of the times you will not want to center your subject. However, there are some exceptions, but for off-center subjects you will have to create more compelling subjects. Remember that the eye will be drawn to four points halfway from the center of the frame towards the four corners. Therefore, you must try to place your subject on any of these marks.
- Try to see things from a new angle. Also, you will have to look around yourself and everywhere. Sometimes you may find a new perspective on a known object and it will create a fantastic photograph with a new meaning. Therefore, never be afraid of kneeling down or getting on the ground for taking the next best picture. Remember that you must not shy away from your subject either. Go close and try to get those minute details from your subject. You will be surprised to see what you have got.
- Take the picture. Unless you want the shaky look, it will be a good idea, especially when there is a low light and slow shutter speed condition, to hold your breath while taking a picture. It will prevent you from moving the camera at the most crucial point. If possible, then at slow shutter speed pictures, try to use a tripod or look for something where you can set your camera.
- Always remember that lighting will affect the way your pictures come out. Be cautious whenever you are using flash. Many times, you do not want a washed out look that you tend to get from the traditional flash. In some situations, it will be necessary to use a flash but try to use as much natural light as you can, which includes light bulbs and any other lights in the natural setting.
- Try using a white card stock, or anything else white for helping you to bounce light. For instance, when you need to photograph someone’s portrait in a situation with low light and want to maintain mood light, but the room is little darker than that, then ask someone to hold a bright white beside the shadow of the person’s face. This will reduce the maximum shadow and will help you in getting the desired look.
- Another important thing is confidence with strangers. Go for a stroll in your neighborhood with a camera. If something around catches your attention then immediately take a picture. Most of the times people will be very understanding when you take their picture.
- Try experimenting with your film, use black and white for a change. Most of the photographers never use it and that is the worst part. They fail to understand that black and white film gives a unique perspective to your pictures and will let you study shadow and highlights.
So, take your camera and go out, click random things and you will be surprised to see what you have captured.
