• Find fan clubs for your favorite artists and join them. Participate in their activities and be active on their forums/ mailing lists. Send emails encouraging the band, make yourself heard. Most people presume band members are too busy and smug to ever read fan mail, but this is not true, so make sure you are extremely sincere.
• There are always some contests before concerts offering backstage passes or at least concert tickets. If you are lucky enough to win, you will be communicated by someone. Depending on the person and the band, that person might be close to the band. Request him for backstage passes and see if you can get any.
• Make a list of all the radio stations who play your favorite artists music and a list of all their upcoming concerts in the next 6-12 months. Call each radio station and voice your opinion about wanting to have some contests for concert tickets or backstage passes. Participate in every concert and try to win em. Someone or the other will win and hopefully that person will be you. You might want to add the radio station on your speed dial so as not to miss the contest.
• Make your own band. Cover the artist in question. Play on the streets and generally promote the band. Take videos and pictures of what you are doing and mail it back to the band along with your contact information. This will surely be appreciated by the band. Tell them you would love to meet them one day. The artist might be moved and do something for you in return….such as give you a backstage pass.
• Dress well and appropriately for the concert. If you still haven’t got any passes look to get them from those people who are a part of the artists crew. Usually crew members are the ones in black. Find one of em and start a conversation with em. Remember you have nothing to lose and sometimes there might be “scouts” in the crowd looking for fans who desperately want to meet the band. Be genuinely interested, remember this is not the time to play cool, you want to meet them.
• Freelance for the local newspaper and go to the concert with a press pass. You can use this to get backstage. You can also ask your local newspaper to set up and interview with the artist, this way you will get to meet them personally.
• Failing all else, you might find backstage passes up for sale. Many a times it is possible to just make the purchase from the website or from the place selling concert tickets. Tell them you have waited ages to see this day. Be nice and polite.
