Law enforcement personnel and agencies are finding it harder and harder to keep up with this pressure. This has eventually led to individuals looking to hire bodyguards for personal protection and security. This has resulted in an increased demand for bodyguards and created opportunities to take up bodyguard as a career choice. Being relatively new career choice, places are still to be filled and being a bodyguard is in high demand. But before making any hasty decision and applying for a bodyguard position, realize that you have to prepare yourself. As a bodyguard you will be required to have certain skills and will have to undergo tough physical training. Skills required:

Its not easy being an bodyguard and requires certain skills on your part. It is important to master and understand these skills before starting out as a professional bodyguard. Lack of these skill will only make you a poor bodyguard. Doing a bad job will only harm your reputation and will find is difficult to get jobs again. Remember bad reputation will precede you arrival on your future job interviews.

You must be able to plan. One of the jobs of a bodyguard is to plan out his clients route and movement. For example if you are the bodyguard of a sports person then you will have to roam all over the country and maybe even outside with your client. You will have to plan the safest way for the person to travel from one venue to another, or to his hotel room. Along with this you will have to chart out all the exits possible in case of an emergency.
You will be required to have great people skills. Being a bodyguard means having to deal with a lot of people. You will need to be exceptionally skilled to be able to deal with all kinds of people. For example if you are the bodyguard of a student. Students will prefer if you behave friendly and nicely around their friends, while not telling on them to their parents.
You should be able to deal with being alone. There will be times when being a bodyguard will require you to be out of the clients way. This could mean waiting for her/him to finish a meeting, or at home till they are ready. At such times you will have little to do except keep an eye out for trouble makers and intruders. It could also mean waiting outside in the car while your client concludes a business transaction. Your client might not want you to get involved in what he or she is doing.
Remember that your client wanting privacy does not give you an excuse to let your guard down. You have to keep an eye out for trouble. You never know, trouble can strike anywhere, and your topmost priority is the protection of your client.

Training required:

To be a bodyguard you will need a minimum educational qualification of a school diploma. With this in hand you will be able to attend specialized bodyguard training schools. Once this training is complete, you can apply for jobs in your profession.
In addition to become a bodyguard you must be in top physical condition. Knowing a few martial arts will help a lot. Gun training and use of a stick or baton will also add to your resume.
You must know that most bodyguards out there today are ex military personnel or law enforcement officials. This isn’t the least bit surprising as ex military men or law enforcement officials already have the experience, training and skills required to do the job exceptionally well. The fact is that in their line of profession they would have seen more dangers that you could ever experience in training school.
