How to Clean Denture

Denture is a device which is manufactured to restore the missing teeth, and it is held up by surrounding hard and soft tissues off the “oral cavity”. Conservative dentures are removable, though there are various kinds of denture designs available and some of them rely on clutching or bonding in teeth or dental implants. Dentures have two main categories i.e. “mandibular arch” and “maxillary arch”.  Dentures also have various “idiomatic” terms such as “false teeth”, “dental plate”, “choppers falsies” and “gnashers”.

People become toothless (edentulous), for many reasons, the most common reason for edentulous is a typical dental disease related to “oral flora control” i.e. “periodontal disease” and “tooth decay”.  The tooth decay defect caused by a rigorous “malnutrition”, some hereditary defect such as “dentinogenesis imperfecta”, “drug use”, and “trauma”.

The dentures are made up of resin, and it has very tiny holes which can store food waste, and bacteria or virus. Dentures get stained, because dentures are worn whole day. Regular reinfection by dentures can cause “microbial disease”, and it can cause a constant systematic disease. Therefore to avoid these diseases you will have to clean your dentures regularly. Follow the following simple steps to keep your denture clean.
How to Clean Denture
Instructions:

  • Wash your denture properly thrice a day by using denture brush, and with non-abrasive denture cleanser.  Avoid using regular toothpaste for cleaning dentures it is too rough for it.
  • Handle your denture with care, as your dentures are too delicate. While removing   your denture, pull it out slowly, by applying a rocking motion.
  • Avoid using rough brush, alcohol, bleaches, cleaners, whitener they can scrape the surface of your denture. And chemical like bleach can turn your white part of denture into pink.
  • Never use dishwasher, boiling water, microwave to soak or clean the denture, as it can wrap them.
  • Wash your denture properly after every meal.
  • Avoid wearing denture while sleeping.  Soak the denture in lukewarm water or denture cleaner in the night.
  • You can bleach your “denture brush” in fifty percent “Clorox” and fifty percent “water” twice a week.
  • Put dentures in fifty percent vinegar and fifty percent water to reduce the growth of fungus. You can also use “Aloe Vera Gel”. Apply Aloe Vera gel on you denture thrice a day, it is a good antifungal gel.
  • You can also soak denture in a homemade solution of 2tablespoon of Clorox and 3 tablespoon of calgon, and 6 cups of water. After placing it in solution, remove all cleaner by brushing the denture under running water with a soft nylon toothbrush.
  • If fungal disease or infection occurs in your mouth then use “nystatin vag.” balm, place it in an even coating twice a day for at least ten days. You can also try “peridex” mouth wash.
  • Remove your denture while using mouth wash.
  • Rub your gums with fingers or thumbs in the morning and evening, or you can also use a soft bristled toothbrush.
  • Brush your gums thrice a day to rouse the gums to make them firm.
  • Clean your gums after every meal to avoid frustration caused by bacteria.
  • Brushing the denture after every meal reduces staining, irritation, and bad breath.  While cleaning it put it in a clean cloth and soak it in warm water. Brush your denture by using denture brush to protect it splattering of food and plaque.
  • Damaged or scratched dentures will harbour plaque and bacteria which cause bad odour.

Cleaning denture with soft temporary lining:

  • Put the denture in a denture cleaning product, soak it in warm water.
  • Keep denture in cleaning solution for almost 30 minutes.
  • Initially, Use cotton balls to wipe the liner. Later you can clean it with bristled brush.

Do not let your denture dry always put it in water when it is out of your mouth.
