A window blind is a particular type of window covering, which is made with planks of fabric, woods, plastic or metal. It is adjusted by turning from an open position to a closed position by letting planks to overlap. The metal window blinds are often found outside the business or house. It is used to protect from temperature, thief, bad climate, vision. It is also prevent fire, especially in fire prone area. The blinds are generally operated by machine, rather than hand.
There are mainly two types of blinds, “vertical blinds” and “horizontal blinds”. The horizontal blinds use a thin wicker “ladder” system, to drop the planks and allow planks to be closed by rotating drum through the upper end of the “wicker ladder” is draped and attached. The vertical blinds mainly use wide planks and have a special feature of pulling cord to hoard the planks together either to one side or to separate in the center and hoard on each end. “Edward Bopp” and “Fedrick Bopp” invented the original vertical blinds in Kansas City.
The other types of window blinds are mentioned below.
- Slat blinds: they contain lots of horizontal planks attached to strings with a rotating facility and to conceal light or to clear window.
- Venetian blinds: These kinds of blinds are made of plastic, metal and wood or bamboo. The width of planks of this blinds are wider in size.
- Mini blinds: this blind is similar to Venetian blinds, but it has narrower planks width.
Window blinds are popular because they are very convenient to use and they appear really classy. Clean or dust your window blinds whenever you clean your house. Proper cleaning of blinds should be done twice in every six months to maintain their durability and keep them clean.
Procedure:
- The form of cleaning window blinds depends on the amount of dust dumped on it. If the blinds have a small amount of dust layer, then you can dust them off by using moist cloth.
- This process is pretty beneficial, as the dust won’t get released in the air and it’s a safe and inexpensive method for cleaning.
- If your window blind is dirty enough, then you need some amount of white vinegar, cotton hand gloves.
- Place white vinegar in a container and put on your hand glove. After that immerse your finger in container and take out excess amount of vinegar. Now, spread vinegar on both side of the first planks to clean out all the dust.
- After cleaning few planks, you can remove the dust from the gloves. Immerse it (glove) again in vinegar solution and wipe out all the remaining planks.
- If your blinds are made of “fabric” or “vinyl”, then you can use clean it by using rubber dry sponge.
- For metal or vinyl blinds, you can remove it and clean it properly. Put towel on the floor before placing metal blinds on it, as metal blinds can scratch your floor. After washing metal blinds hang them out and let it dry. Once it get dry put them back on window.
- If your fabric blinds are tremendously dirty, then you can give to drycleaner or laundries that wash has window blinds treatments.
Tips:
- While washing wood blinds, avoid over soaking the wood. Wipe out extra water from wood immediately to avoid any damage to blinds or discoloring.
- You can vacuum your blinds frequently with an attachment of brush. Always vacuum across the planks not upside down.
- Avoid contact of cleaner with your eyes and skin it can be really harmful and dangerous.
- Wipe down your blinds plank with “fabric softener sheets” after cleaning and drying it, it helps blinds postpone the dust build-up. It will also provide a pleasant and fresh odor to blinds.
