A scallop is an aquatic bivalve mollusc; it comes from Pectinidae ancestors. Scallops originated in seas around the globe. Most of the scallops are extremely valued as a resource of food. The term scallop has come from the ancient French term ‘escalope’, meaning shell. In this tutorial, you will learn various steps on how to cook scallop.

Pan Fried

Cooking scallop is an easy task. Scallops are attractive, delicately seasoned meat, and need very less cooking time. If you cook meat for a long time, then it will become tasteless and hard.

You just require around 6 to 7 scallops per person; it completely depends on the size, and what kind of meal course you are cooking.

Ensure that before you begin, you desiccate the scallops on a portion of kitchen paper, and then add some salt and black pepper on both sides of the meat.

Scallops should be dried methodically when you transfer them into a saucepan.

You will have to cover a deep based pan with vegetable oil, and keep it for a few minutes to get heated.

When the pan become hot, you can transfer the scallops into the pan. Cook it for some time, approximately for one minute on each side.

Once you have tossed them over, put in a huge butter knob in the pan, and let it become brown. Finish off the scallop by wrapping them in butter in the end of cooking.

Now, your scallop is cooked and ready to serve.

Grilled

To cook grilled scallop, begin with heating the grill on high temperature.

When the scallops are ready, dried and flavored, take out the grill plate and wrap the stand with oil so that the scallops won’t stick to it.

It is always suggested that rub the scallops with liquefied butter before handling it, this will aid in keeping them wet while cooking.

They take approximately two minutes on each side, or until cooked from side to side. This is completely dependent on the size of the piece of scallop.

When the scallop is cooked completely, you can rub some more melted butter on it, if you wish to add more flavor to your cooked scallops.

Poached

Now, we will learn how to cook scallops that have been poached

Once the scallops are dried, seasoned and prepared, they are easier to poach. You can poach them in wine or stock.

For this, you will have to bring the liquid to boil in a skillet, simmer the single layer of scallops for nearly 5 minutes; it may depend upon their size. Heat them on a medium heat. You will have to turn them once.

Once they are cooked, take them out and now they are ready to serve
