Fixing other problems

If the problem is not with the DVD disks but still your DVD drive is not working properly then try some other fixing methods that are discussed below.

  • If the DVD is not getting sufficient power, then check all the connections and power cable. The DVD may not show up in the folders list of your system in this case; so, if this is the case then check that all the plugs are connected properly.
  • The most common and serious issue faced by most of us is, Windows fails to recognize the device. This occurs mainly when you have installed the device for the first time in your system. This occurs because of improper installation of the device into the system or problem in the data cable of the device. To fix this problem reinstall the device and check whether it works properly now or check whether the data cable is working properly.
  • Most of the times your operating system recognizes the disk but still it does not read the disk. This may be because of the dirty laser lens in the drive. You will get cleaning kits for cleaning these lasers in any computer store. These cleaning kits basically contain a DVD cleaning disk which has to be run in the drive. Using this cleaning kit, clean the laser and insert the disk and see whether it runs properly now.
  • Sometimes, the problem can be with the version of the driver installed. All drivers are not compatible with all the operating systems. Check the compatibility of the drivers before installing them into your systems. Always upgrade your drivers with new software available in the market. Checking the website of the manufactures regularly and downloading the latest versions of the software available would be a good option.
  • Another common problem with your DVD drives is, the DVD tray rejects to go back in or eject. This problem is most of the times solved by rebooting and in some cases the problem persists and you always have difficulty in closing and opening the tray. Replacing the DVD tray is the only solution to this problem.
  • Running the troubleshooting software to identify the exact problem with your DVD will also be helpful. Run this software and fix the problem. You can search for such software online and download them.
  • Check whether all the settings are set properly going to the driver setting of your DVD in the control panel. You should not use your DVD drivers in compatibility mode.
