Flubber is material, which flows under low pressures, but breaks under higher pressures. Flubber is also known as “gloop”. It’s a combination of fluid-like and solid-like properties, which makes it a Maxwell solid.  It has two types of behavior viscoplastic or gelateonus. Flubber is a silicon polymer; it is formed by the chemical reaction of borax, water and white glue.

Flubber is a simple science experiment, it is fun for children to prepare and experiment with after processing. Kids will love getting their hands on with this creative activity.let’s see how to make flubber with recipe and instructions.

Ingredient for flubber:

• Water
• White school glue,
• Food coloring
• Borax
• Laundry detergents

Procedure:

• Take 2-cups warm water and mix 4 tablespoon of borax, stir them together until it dissolves completely.
• Put in some amount (according to your desire) of food coloring in the mixture and keep that dish aside.
• Now take a separate dish, put 3 cups of warm water in it, and add 3 cups of the white school glue to it.
• Stir the mixture until it dissolves properly.
• Now take both dishes together and mix them by using your hands.
• This is a hand on experiment, so do not use spoon or other utensil to stir.
• Continue rubbing the mixture for at least 5 to 10 minutes to arrive at the desired consistency.
• Your flubber is ready now, play with it.

Merits of flubber:

• Flubber entertains young kids by allowing the children to follow directions, act like an “adult” by combining and mixing ingredients.

• Kids gains physical strength by getting their hands gooey hooey on flubber.

• It invites kids into kitchen in very friendly way, but it’s not exactly cooking and it entertains kids.

• Kids want to make things like adults in the kitchen. This gives elders great way to introduce mixing, stirring and kneading techniques to kids.

How to use flubber:

• Use your creativity, find out what you can do and can’t do with flubber, and tell kids how they can use flubber in their life.

• Break it in two pieces, bounce it, does it stick to ceiling if you toss it up
• See if you can cut cookies with it. How far can you enlarge it ? What happens to flubber if you put marble in it?

• You can explain the scientific structure of flubber to elder kids, such as when you combine these particular ingredient (white school glue, water and borax) together what chemical reaction it will cause. This chemical reaction will create new compound.

• These types of compounds are classified as polymer, consisting of long chains of smaller repeating molecules.
