An article is a form on non-fictional prose that the independent part of publication. Articles are of two types; news articles and feature articles. A news article is published on internet news or in print. A news article includes the accounts of the eyewitnesses about an event that happened. In a news article, there are pictures, interviews, polls, debates and many more things. The writer of these articles gives the facts, details and answers questions like who, what, when, where, why and how. The most important ingredient for a newspaper article is the conclusion. The standard format for writing a news article is to follow the inverted pyramid style, which is the most important information comes in the first two paragraphs.

A feature article is a non-fiction article, which is usually used to inform, amuse or teach the reader about a particular topic. The topics in feature articles usually centers on the human interest. In feature articles, one can find fiction like plot, character and dialogues. A feature article is also known as the umbrella term, which includes the main literary structures like essays, sketches, how to’s, interviews and many more. The main elements of an article are:

  • Headline: a headline is the text on the top of the newspaper article, which indicates the nature and type of the article. The headline instantly catches the attention of the readers and leads them to read further.
  • Lead: the lead is the sentence that captures the attention of the readers and sums up the entire focus of the story in one sentence.
  • Body: for a news article, elaboration and details are important in the main body and it must have a smooth flow.  Sometimes, quotes are used to add a little interest to the news article. In a feature article, the flow of the article is according to its subject.
  • Conclusion: there is one difference between a feature article and news article. In a news article, the ending occurs only when all the information has been added to the article. However, a feature article has a definite closure.

Writing a feature article or a news article is not difficult. Here are some easy steps on how to write article.

Steps:

  • Decide a topic and think about what exactly you want to write. You can take some time to think about innovative ideas. While  writing, try to figure out who is your target audience.
  • Start doing the research. If you have no idea about the topic you are planning to write about, then try to do some thorough research. For research, you can take help of the internet or you can refer to some books.
  • Decide what will be the length of your article. If you are writing for a newspaper or a magazine, they will provide you with a word limit. If you are writing articles online for websites like ‘ehow’ or ‘wikihow’, there is no word limit for these websites.
  • You can compile a list of sources from where you can take help or quoted sentences. The list can include the internet, various documents, research and many more.
  • Before you start writing, make a rough outline or write a summary. This will give you a clear concept of what you have to write.
  • The rough draft of your article should consist of things you want to tell your readers, cover all the possible information, make sure that the information is easy to understand and then conclude.
  • Proofread your article; check if you have added some faulty information. Make sure that you do not include any contradictory information. Do not write any kind of unnecessary information just to increase the length of the article. If you have to do more research, go ahead and do it.
  • Check if there are any spellings or grammar errors in your article. Read the article at least twice or thrice just to make sure that there is a smooth flow in the article.

If the article is not perfect, rewrite it. Once you have written your article, submit it.
