A review is the evaluation of any publication, be it movies, video games, musical compositions and books. There are reviews for other things also like the car, home appliances, computer, event and play. In addition, for a critical evaluation, the author of the review will give a rating as per the merit of the subject. The compilation of reviews is also known as review. “The New York Review of Books” is a collection of various essays on culture, current affairs and literature. The literature review in scientific research is a part of the scientific paper, which gives a synthesis of the entire research on a particular topic. The compilation of this research forms the main content of the scientific journal. Peer review is the process of assessing the work of upcoming scientists, which has been submitted for creating scientific literature. A software review is similar to a peer review, which is done by the co-workers.

A consumer review is one, which is written by the owner of a product or any user of that service. The person using the service should have sufficient experience to comment on the reliability of the product. A person, who has tested various products and knows which one is best, always writes an expert review. A bought review is written when the creator of the product pays the reviewer to review his product.  There are various other types of reviews like:

  • Book Review: a book review is also known as a book report; it is a part of literary criticism. In a review, a book is carefully analyzed for its style and content. The reviewer will give a review on the adequacy of the topic of the book to its content.
  • Music Review: it reviews the live music performance and tells the readers about the group and the kind of music played. Music critics also review recordings of the music, which includes songs from the entire album. In classical music, the music reviewers, reviews the composition.

Writing a review requires one to be skilled and have in-depth knowledge of their subject. Here are some simple steps on how to write review.

Steps:

  • Read the article carefully. When you are reading keep a few question in mind such as:
    • What is the article trying to say?
    • Is the message clearly conveyed?
    • How readable is the article?
    • Is the information accurate?
    • How useful is the information?
  • Write the introductory paragraph, which will cite the main article and will give a brief description of what the article is about. You do not have to cover it in detail; you should go through only a few important points.
  • Next, explain why this article is relevant. Why the information provided in the article is important and how it will be useful to the readers. This can be in your introductory paragraph. Depending on the structure of your review; you can add this information anywhere.
  • Move to the critique of the article. This is the main part of the essay. Cover points like, was the article good or bad and why? The questions that you have answered in the previous point can be used for reference.
  • Now you can end the review. Write a short conclusion stating why you would or would not recommend this article.

Your review is done. Always remember, if you find the language of your article confusing, instead of interpreting it just write in the review that the language is confusing.

How to Write Article

An article is a form on non-fictional prose that the independent part of publication. Articles are of two types; news articles and feature articles. A news article is published on internet news or in print. A news article includes the accounts of the eyewitnesses about an event that happened. In a news article, there are pictures, interviews, polls, debates and many more things. The writer of these articles gives the facts, details and answers questions like who, what, when, where, why and how. The most important ingredient for a newspaper article is the conclusion. The standard format for writing a news article is to follow the inverted pyramid style, which is the most important information comes in the first two paragraphs.

A feature article is a non-fiction article, which is usually used to inform, amuse or teach the reader about a particular topic. The topics in feature articles usually centers on the human interest. In feature articles, one can find fiction like plot, character and dialogues. A feature article is also known as the umbrella term, which includes the main literary structures like essays, sketches, how to’s, interviews and many more. The main elements of an article are:

  • Headline: a headline is the text on the top of the newspaper article, which indicates the nature and type of the article. The headline instantly catches the attention of the readers and leads them to read further.
  • Lead: the lead is the sentence that captures the attention of the readers and sums up the entire focus of the story in one sentence.
  • Body: for a news article, elaboration and details are important in the main body and it must have a smooth flow.  Sometimes, quotes are used to add a little interest to the news article. In a feature article, the flow of the article is according to its subject.
  • Conclusion: there is one difference between a feature article and news article. In a news article, the ending occurs only when all the information has been added to the article. However, a feature article has a definite closure.

Writing a feature article or a news article is not difficult. Here are some easy steps on how to write article.

  • Decide a topic and think about what exactly you want to write. You can take some time to think about innovative ideas. While  writing, try to figure out who is your target audience.
  • Start doing the research. If you have no idea about the topic you are planning to write about, then try to do some thorough research. For research, you can take help of the internet or you can refer to some books.
  • Decide what will be the length of your article. If you are writing for a newspaper or a magazine, they will provide you with a word limit. If you are writing articles online for websites like ‘ehow’ or ‘wikihow’, there is no word limit for these websites.
  • You can compile a list of sources from where you can take help or quoted sentences. The list can include the internet, various documents, research and many more.
  • Before you start writing, make a rough outline or write a summary. This will give you a clear concept of what you have to write.
  • The rough draft of your article should consist of things you want to tell your readers, cover all the possible information, make sure that the information is easy to understand and then conclude.
  • Proofread your article; check if you have added some faulty information. Make sure that you do not include any contradictory information. Do not write any kind of unnecessary information just to increase the length of the article. If you have to do more research, go ahead and do it.
  • Check if there are any spellings or grammar errors in your article. Read the article at least twice or thrice just to make sure that there is a smooth flow in the article.

If the article is not perfect, rewrite it. Once you have written your article, submit it.
